K is for King James Hepburn (Oh, Wait…)

PG 869Okay, so James Hepburn, the 4th Earl of Bothwell, was never technically king. He was married to Queen Mary of Scotland, but he wedded her in such a scandalous way that if her kingdom had not already been in jeopardy, that would have done it. As it was, it was pretty much the nail in her monarchical coffin. It was also pretty badass. I’m shocked he hasn’t had movie made purely about his courtship of Mary Stuart.

But, much as I adore the story of Mary Queen of Scots and her Earl of Bothwell, this is not a history post. This is a superficial post with no redeeming scholarly merit whatsoever. This is a post about the fact that, for some strange, unknown reason (and clearly not accounting for taste), I have the major hots for James Hepburn, Earl of Bothwell. He could seriously get it.

So here’s to you JH. You may not have quite grasped the crown of Scotland, but you will always be King of My Heart.
